Cultural Institutions

Lingen has a trans-regional charisma with its stages in its Municipal Theater, the Burgtheater and the Kulturforum Sankt Michael. The Emslandhallen provide music and entertainment events.

The children-, youth- and cultural center ''Alter Schlachthof'“ does not only provide additional events for youths but also presents events organized by youths. The biggest further - and advanced institution for education - the „Theaterpädagogische Zentrum der Emsländischen Landschaft e. V.' is the largest of its kind in Germany. It is restructured in the „Haus der Sinne“ (“House of the Senses“) and has found its new home in the Professorenhaus.

The city and university library provides an additional and attractive offer i.e. readings by authors. This well-stocked library also provides more than 80.000 media. The Art Society of Lingen and the Art Gallery strongly represent the Fine Arts. The students of the Musikschule (School of music) make a name for themselves every year with impressive successes in regional and national competitions.

Different institutions present and document the regional art, culture and history: The Emslandmuseum Lingen regularly sets up many notable topical exhibitions; the “Lern- und Gedenkort Jüdische Schule” (Jewish School Learning and Memorial Centre) shows a permanent exhibition of the fate of Jewish families. The City Archive manages the “Memory of Lingen“.
