Municipal Archives

A bucket full of history

The municipal archives are the memory of a city. Historical written records from the Middle Ages to Modern Times are kept safe and maintained on approximately 800 shelf meters. Files, documents, protocols or plans no longer required are continuously added to the archives.

Moreover, the City Archives collect historically significant sources about the history of Lingen, such as literary remains, company- and club documents, newspapers, photos, festival- and anniversary publications. The Archivsprengel (archival administrative districts) comprises Altenlingen, Baccum, Biene, Bramsche, Brockhausen, Brögbern, ClusorthBramhar, Darme, Estringen, Holthausen, HüvedeSommeringen, Laxten, Münnigbüren, Mundersum, Ramsel, Schepsdorf, Wesel and Wachendorf.

The finding aid collections of the City Archive can be visited during the regular opening hours and can be used for private and scientific research without any charge - as long as there are no conservative reasons regarding privacy laws. The City Archives assist research projects concerning the history of Lingen and publishes the results of its own research on a regular basis.
